Dear Members,

Welcome to our November Newsletter.

AGM – 7th December 2024 at 10:30am

Please do try to attend this important meeting and support your club. It is very important to the club to get as many proxies as possible before the AGM so as to achieve a quorum.  If you are not able to attend in person, please do appoint a proxy to ensure that we have a quorum. You can nominate your choice of proxy (which can be the Chair) in an email to [email protected].

 GROUNDS & CLUBHOUSE

  • Please note that the rear car park will be used exclusively by the floodlight installers during the period of floodlight works, ie 9 Dec-10 Jan. There will be lorries and large vans coming and going during this period, which will require all the space at the rear of the clubhouse for maneuvering. Members should only use the front car park at the Club during this period.
  • Please be aware that, for the duration of the new LED floodlight works, employees of the contractor (Luminance Pro) will be given access to the toilet facilities in the clubhouse (via the court side entrance only). As some of the floodlight electrics are located at the rear of the bar, they will also require occasional access through the kitchen, via the outside door to the rear car park. They will not be granted access to any other clubhouse facilities, except with the express agreement of a member of the committee.
  • Some minor electrical works will be carried out inside the clubhouse at the same time as the floodlight works are undertaken, but we anticipate that any disruption should be minimal.
  • You may have noticed the presence of a robot cleaner at the far end of the clubhouse. Cleaning will normally be undertaken at times when the clubhouse is less busy, but please be aware that the robot may occasionally be active while you are in the clubhouse – it is harmless to individuals and should not require any attention, returning to its base once the cleaning cycle has been completed.
  • The beech tree at the entrance to the club from Elliswick Road has a major fungal infection and is to be felled. SADC have approved the works, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday 30 January 2025. During the felling work, access to the car park will be restricted.

TEAM TENNIS

All the autumn/winter matches for the Winter Mixed, Men’s and Ladies vets are underway. Many thanks to all the captains for organising your teams and best of luck to all our players who are taking part.

SOCIALS

The jazz night, at which Lulu and the Hullabaloos performed, on Saturday 9th November was a great success.  Thanks to Louisa and the gang who managed to get the attendees dancing the night away with their music. Earlier this month, 17 Members had a very enjoyable theatre trip to the Mill at Sonning, to watch a new dramatisation of the ghost story The Whistling, preceded by a Scottish-themed lunch. Many thanks to Richard Cooke, who drove everyone there in the Hopper Bus. Watch this space for more theatre trips on the Spring.
