ELLISWICK LTC AUGUST 2024 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to our August Newsletter.  We hope that you all have had a great summer. We are pleased to inform you that Jim McGown, Eric Rovick, Andree Haxton, Ben Wood, Kate Curson and David Kendall will be representing the Club at the Centenary Clubs Day hosted by the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club at Wimbledon on 4 September. There will be seven other centenary clubs represented at the event.

JUNIOR TOURNAMENT – 15TH SEPTEMBER OR 22ND SEPTEMBER AS RESERVE DATE

It is not too late to enter the tournament.  We have now extended the sign-up deadline until the 8th September.  We need more players to participate in this tournament.  The more juniors that sign up, the more fun it will be, and the juniors will play more games. Please do encourage your juniors to enter.

“For the tournament to go ahead, we are relying on parents to organise this tournament this year. Please get in touch with our Junior Secretary, Marc Stacey at [email protected]  if you are willing to volunteer in organising this event.”

BBQ food and drinks will be available throughout the day so please come along to support our talented junior members and make it an extra special day.  It will be a one day “round robin” championship.  Timings for the day will be advised in due course to all those who have entered.

CLUBHOUSE AND GROUNDS

New LED Floodlights

A meeting has been held with Luminance Pro (the designated floodlight supplier/ installer), to discuss the logistics for removing the existing Abacus floodlights and installing the new LED system. The Luminance Pro quote should be available early September, for review at the next ELTC committee meeting on 9 September. Subject to ELTC’s acceptance of the quote and associated plan of work, the floodlight replacement works may potentially be completed before Christmas 2024. An update will be provided in due course.

Courts Condition

All players, members and visitors play at their own risk. It is each player’s responsibility to assess whether it is safe to go on court and to take care on and around the grounds (for example, in inclement or icy conditions). Wear recognised tennis clothing and shoes at all times. Tennis shoes should have adequate tread to avoid slips on court. Heavily ridged trainers or other footwear should not be worn as they will damage the court.

MEMBERSHIPS SECRETARY POSITION

We are looking for a volunteer to take up the above position to replace Sally Radcliffe who has been our Membership Secretary for many years. If you are able to help, please do not hesitate to contact David Kendall at [email protected] for more information. We thank Sally for all her hard work and contributions.

TEAM TENNIS

Ladies Teams

We have a few summer matches to complete in September in the Hot Rackets and Herts leagues as we start to look towards Winter Vets, in which we have entered 1 x 40’s, 2 x 50’s and 2 x 60’s teams. Captains will be in touch when fixtures are out (expect in the next few weeks) if you were on the teams last year or have expressed an interest recently. If you wish to play in any of the teams, please contact [email protected]

Men’s Teams

The Summer League season is almost over. It was good to see some new faces competing this year – thanks again to the team captains for their hard work in organising the matches.

The vets leagues will get underway in the next few months. If anyone would like to be included in the squads for 45+, 55+, 65+, then please let Jem know at [email protected] and he can put you in touch with the respective team captain.

Mixed Teams

Following the conclusion of the Summer Datchworth League, we are now entering the Autumn/Winter /Spring competitions and have entered a number of teams into the Autumn Datchworth and the Winter Mixed competitions.  The Autumn Datchworth runs from early Sept until early November usually on Saturday afternoons and the Winter Mixed from November to April.  Both are two pair teams.  Anyone who played in the previous year’s mixed teams and this year’s Summer Datchworth will be included in the squads for the forthcoming competitions but if you didn’t play in any of these and would like to included please let Amy Martin know via [email protected]  and she’ll get you added to the appropriate team squad.
