With any event we rely on volunteers to make this happen, so if anybody can help then we would really appreciate hearing from you.

Mens Teams
Our summer leagues (The Herts National League, Hot Rackets and Herts League) are now almost concluded. Our Herts National League have played all their matches and will be promoted. The HR1 team played three matches, won 2 and lost 1, they have one more match to play. HR2 team played 4 matches, won 2 and lost 2 and will probably be relegated. Both Hot Rackets and Herts leagues have involved some of our junior members to play in their teams. We are looking forward to play in the winter vets (45’s, 55’s and 65’s). If any gents would like to play in the team tennis, please do not hesitate to contact our Men’s Captain, Jem Collier Garrity, at [email protected]
Mixed Teams
The Summer Datchworth league has now finished and it’s fair to say we had a bit of a mixed set of results. Our 1st Team run by Amy Martin finished top of division 2 and will be promoted. The 2nd Team run by Neil Craig came third bottom in the same division but unfortunately will be relegated as three teams go down. We only just missed out staying up by one set! The 3rd and 4th Teams are run by Stuart Owen and the former finished bottom of division 3A and will be relegated however the latter finished top of division 8B and will be promoted. The final leagues position are per the attached link. http://www.datchworth.net/images/Summary.htm. Huge thanks goes to all those who played and especially to Amy, Neil and Stuart for all their hard work in organising the teams over the 14-week season.
Mixed friendlies: we have played 4 out of 5 matches, won 1 and lost the others. We have used a mix of players in this league, including some juniors and some more experienced players. We are currently mid-table in the league after Redbourn and St. Albans who have much stronger players.
Social Mix-In on Thursday 6pm continues over the summer months with a good range of playing standards all being organised into competitive fours by one of our Coaches.
We’re now starting to plan for the autumn/winter mixed competitions. Anyone interested in playing for one of our teams please contact Tony Ward via [email protected].
SOCIALS
At the beginning of the month, one of our members, Mark Quinn organised a family walk. It was very well attended and everyone who joined the walk really enjoyed it and suggested to hold this event again next year. Our music and magic evening in early July was also a huge success. Tim Sutton, entertainment mastermind, provided the 50 guests with a memorable and entertaining evening. Wimbledon Ladies Finals Day was screened in the club and enjoyed with a generous helping of Pimms and lemonade. Thank you to Mark, Tim and Victoria who organised these events.
Monday 28th August – Our last Bank Holiday Tournament. The tournament is organised for Intermediate 16+ up to senior players and is a great way to meet and play with new people and have fun! If you are interested please contact Jem Collier Garrity at [email protected]
In September we have more events to look forward to including:
Sunday 10th September from 1pm – join us down at the club to support our men’s first team in their final league match of the season. Excitement is guaranteed as victory will secure promotion into a higher league. The bar will be open for liquid refreshments. There may be some hot food too.
Thursday 14th September – Our last supper evening for 2023, which featuring cooking by Jon Carr.
Sunday 17th September – The Junior Tournament (Reserve date 24th September)
Friday 22nd September – The Macmillan coffee morning. Please let Jane Bisseker know if you are able to help out with baking a cake or two for this event.
Saturday 7th October – Quiz night
Our Social Secretary, Jane Bisseker, will also be arranging a theatre trip to see 9-5 at the Eric Morecambe Theatre. More information to follow.
Finally, don’t forget Saturday morning bacon rolls in the clubhouse! The rolls have continued to be extremely popular with profits going towards Ella Beasley’s World Challenge.
For more information regarding any of the social events, please contact Jane Bisseker at [email protected]
CINE AND VIDEO FILMS
If any member has old cine or video films of the Club, could they please speak to Jim McGown or David Kendall as they would like to see if they can be used in a video to mark the Club’s centenary.
